New Member Pledge

New Member Pledge

  • Thank you for your interest in Congregation Beth Israel. We are committed to creating a dynamic, vibrant center for Jewish life in the Monterey Peninsula area.
We are now beginning our third year of our new approach to building our fellowship by switching from a Dues System to a Pledge System for membership contributions. We refer to this as terumah, a gift of the heart. To include all members of our Jewish community, we ask that everyone give what they can, and that those with greater financial means make a larger pledge that will offset the smaller pledges of those who cannot give as much at this time. As a benchmark to guide your contributions, we have established a Sustaining Pledge, $2500 for families and $1750 for singles and one-parent families, which is simply the Congregation’s total expenses divided by the number of Congregants.

Our aging building is in need of maintenance, repairs and security enhancements. We are asking every family to contribute $200 toward these efforts.

Congregation Beth Israel’s mission is to be a welcoming and inclusive center for Jewish life in the Monterey Peninsula area. Our hope is to grow our active community through economic inclusivity. Your generosity makes this possible. We invite you to let your finances, and your heart, dictate your pledge. No one will be turned away and everyone who contributes something is considered a Member of CBI.

We anticipate 2019-20 will be an exciting year for our congregation. The addition of the Potrero Canyon Preschool, our dynamic Religious and Hebrew Schools, our well–attended adult education programs and, of course the spiritual life enhanced by our wonderful Rabbi and Cantor all contribute to the special community that is CBI. We hope that you will join with us going forward.

Please return your pledge form and member information to CBI by mail, email to in person. Please be in touch if you have any questions. We look forward to welcoming you to CBI.

We leave you with words from Pirkei Avot 1:2:
“Deeds of giving are the very foundation of the world.”
B’Shalom Cara Lieb, CBI Board of Trustees President
