Louise Riddell-Kaufman considers herself a lifelong learner…gaining wisdom from both formal and informal sources. She learned this Jewish value as a child when she attended her father’s Bar Mitzvah leading her to become an adult Bat Mitzvah herself at CBI.
Louise has been an active member of our school since 1991 when she enrolled her son in the school. In 1992 she became a teacher in the Pre-K/ Kindergarten classroom where she taught for 5 years. She stepped in as the principal of the school in August of 1997 on a trial base to ease an emergency situation. The trial worked, as demonstrated by the fact that she is entering her 20th year as our Director of Education!
Louise has a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Psychology and a Certificate in Mediation from UC Santa Cruz Extension. She advanced her Judaic education through attending annual conferences sponsored by the URJ and CAJE. In 2013 Louise decided that she wanted more Jewish education than these venues were able to offer and made the decision to return to graduate school. Louise earned her Master of Arts in Religious Education from Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in 2015 and received her Reform Jewish Educator status from the Association of Reform Jewish Educators in 2017. She continues her learning through conferences, study groups and other professional development opportunities. She is truly a lifelong learner!
Louise has lived in Carmel Valley since 1986 where she raised her two children Jeremy and Anya with her husband Riddle. She relaxes with books, knitting and good friends.
